Choir Ensembles
Choir is open to 4th, and 5th grade students.
Director of Choir:
Mr. Ian Meyer
Choir is available for 4th - 5th graders who are interested in becoming even more proficient in music and developing their singing voice while learning collaboration with their peers! Your child will take a bigger part in music education, which helps contribute not only to a positive self-image, but it can also aid in academic success across the subjects.
We will have multiple concerts this year: first will be the sing-a-long performance that is scheduled for Wednesday December 21st, 2022 during school hours, second will be during the Night of the Arts that is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, April 27th, 2023.
If your student has any interest in joining choir please reach out to Mr. Meyer.
Rehearsals take place every Tuesday from 2:45-3:45pm until May.

Minecraft Club
Requirements: Parent permission is required and students must apply for membership. The club is open to 4th and 5th grade Mountainside students. Students must sign an expectations agreement slip (below). The permission slip/expectations agreement should be completed, signed, and returned to Mr. Griffin no later than Tuesday, September 14th. (Participation may be limited by the number of teachers available to help host worlds, so turn in your paperwork early to ensure you don't miss out).
Goal: The club's purpose is to foster and strengthen friendships and collaboration as students work together to build community and community projects. We will cooperate in creative mode to design and build projects sharing the fantasy theme: Medieval Magic.
Communication will take place primarily through a Schoology group for club members.
Minecraft Club Schedule:
Meetings will start on Thursday, September 16th and run through the end of this school year. We will meet online outside of school in a teacher-hosted world on Minecraft Education Edition. The world will be online Thursdays and Fridays from 4:30-5:30 pm (at least) and may be online 4:30-5:30 pm on other weekdays as well.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
WHAT ARE YOU INTERESTED IN? Sending experiments 100,000 feet into the Earth's atmosphere, building structures from household items, constructing rockets and launching them, competing against other children in our district's competition, being leaders in our school's Family S.T.E.M. Night, and more are all opportunities for your child.
S.T.E.M. Club at Mountainside is set up to allow as many scientists as possible to participate throughout the year. For the 2019-2020 school year, there will be three (3) rotations that scientists can participate in.
1. Students in the first rotation will focus on the scientific process where students launch pongsats in the Earth's Atmosphere.
2. Students in the second rotation will construct Estes Rockets and launch them in December.
3. Students in the third rotation will design a prototype to compete in the district's S.T.E.M. competition. Also, this group of scientists will grow their leadership skills and run stations in the Family S.T.E.M. night in the spring.
If all three rotations sound like something you would enjoy, you can sign-up for all three. Because this club is a popular club, space is limited. Third, fourth, and fifth graders are welcome to join, and membership is decided on a first-come-first-served basis. First and second graders will be invited to join the club.
We look forward to serving our future scientists with more targeted activities. As facilitators of this club, we learn from the children every year. We look forward to what this year has to bring as well!

Student Council
Events:
December: Candy Cane Kindness: Student Council sold candy canes with a paper ornament in order to raise funds for our annual Book Bonanza event in May. Our goal was to raise $425 for this event--that’s one additional book for every student at Mountainside! We ended up raising double our goal! This money will go directly getting Mountainside students books at our Book Bonanza.
Student Council Schedule:
Student council will meet after school on Mondays starting October 4th from 2:30-3:50 pm.
