Early Access

What is Early Access?

Early Access is the early entrance to kindergarten or first grade for highly-advanced gifted children under the age of six. In order to be considered for Early Access, a student must be age 4 by October 1 for kindergarten and age 5 by October 1 for first grade. Children for whom Early Access is appropriate are exceptionally precocious and ready for school earlier than their same-age peers.  Academic achievement, reasoning ability, performance, and motivation are profound compared to other gifted children.

The purpose of Early Access is to identify and serve the few highly-advanced gifted children who require comprehensive academic acceleration to better meet the advanced educational needs of these children. Early Access is not an acceleration pattern recommended for the majority of gifted children ages 4 and 5.

Criteria

For a child to be admitted for Early Access, they must demonstrate high:

  • Achievement in reading, math, and writing
  • Cognitive performance
  • School readiness
  • Observable social behavior
  • Motivation to learn
  • Support from parents/guardians

Students must also be residents of Fountain-Fort Carson School District to be considered for Early Access.
